History

In history we dicuss a lot of different topics such as the civil war,
slavery, the differenty battles such as Gettysburg,Vicksburg etc. and
the differences between the North and the South. We also discuss
politics and the different things that are going on between Barack Obama and John Mcain. Starting off with the civil war. When we discuss the civil war it feels like im really there. It is really exciting. We discuss that the Civil wars outbreak was because of a 3/5 clause and silent endorsements. We talk about the Emancipation Proclamation which was born on January 1st 1863. The Emancipation proclamation freed the slaves in a lot of rebelious states. We talk about how some states didn't really recognize the governments power. In class we also talk about how the North is stronger then the South. We learn that the North was bigger and that it had more workers, manufacturing companies, wepons and transportation. Then we learn that the South had a higher morale and that it had more farm acreage. We also discuss the weaknesses of both the North and the South. Like for example the South had a lot less food then the North. Then the North had less land and a lot less training then the South. We discuss the economic consequences of war in the South. When we talk about that we find out that there was crop devistation, a war by the name of Shermans March, a loss of slaves took place, destruction of property and other things like that. There was shifts in labor for the South. Tjen we talk about the economic
consequences of the North. They too had destruction of property, population losses, and lack of jobs for their people. Then it gets kind of fun when Mrs. G does the different impressions of governers like Sarah Palin, John Mc Cain, And George Bush. we discuss and go over a lot of different things. These things aren't just in the old ancient days but they are in the present also. So we have fun and what we talk about helps our knowledge expand.

i thought the emancipation of proclamation did nothing to help end the war. i also didnt know that the south had less food then the north did. also the north had more guns then the south did. i also didnt think that the south could last as long as they did. but they had better strategy then the north did.

your response was wonderful and summarize. i like how you include that the north had more of mostly everything than the south. i also think the emancipation of proclamation did nothing to help end the war either.

You had your good points. The summary of Mrs. G.'s class is fabulous. The summary of the war is too. It was fun to read. All I ask is in the furture that you try and put it paragraphs. That might make it a little easier to read.

I liked how you compared the North's supplies to the South's supplies. There was a drastic difference in how each side was prepared for the war. The South was low on supplies, but they had the fighting spirit! The North had everything that they could need except for the strategy. I also like when Mrs. G does the impersonations. It makes class enjoyable.

I think it was important that someone talked about how much more of an advantage the north had over the south. It was the major influence on the course of the war, and it's something that needs to be recognized. The south was close to winning the war at times because of better strategy, but the norths numbers in population, and supplies denied them any real chance. They had a much more prominent government and they were much more organized. I think that is largely responsible for their victory also.

That was a nice read. It was a good summary of the Civil War that we have discussed in class so far. I liked that you added some of the advantages and disadvantages of both the Union and the Confederacy. Adding a few reasons for the start of the war made it seem like more of a report then just a summarization of the notes. Which is a good thing. It's good that you showed what helped the Union overtake the Confederacy and why the south fell. And that's how the west was won.

This is a decent summary of some of the things that we have done in class, but I encourage you to reach beyond summarizing our activities. Most of your readers were right there with you, so use this opportunity to comment on how the things we discuss in class are meaningful in your own life. What have you learned from these things? How have our activities changed your conception of the United States. We would all love to know what you are thinking so that we can learn from you!

Wow Mimi, great job! I liked how you included a lot of different details about the Civil War and how it erupted into violence. The civil war time period, or the 1860s in particular, can really be compared to the 2008 presidential election. Honestly, both John McCain and Barack Obama are extraordinary candidates because of their leadership abilities and compassion for the United States. However, as human, they each are bound to possess some type of prejudice. That doesn't make them bad people though.

I liked the way you compared the North and the South. It really showed the advantages that the North had over the South. However, all you did was just summarize, stuff we talked about in class. I would have liked you to put more of your input in things. Still in all well done!

I liked how your blog was a summary of the whole lesson. It's cool to read it all at once here like this. The comparisons of the North's strengths and the South's weaknesses was great. The South would've has such a better chance if they'd had the North's supplies and resources. The South already had everything they really needed except the material things like food and other resources.
I also like when Mrs. G tells us how the Civil War comes into play with current stuff like the election. It makes it a lot less boring.

This blog had a lot detail. You really went in depth with the effects of the civil war on the south and north. This blog also covered a lot of topics so your not just talking about one topic which makes this easier to read

I am glad you referred to many topics that we learned in Mrs. Garber’s class. I liked how you discussed about the north being stronger than the south because. The North had more workers, more manufacturing plants to make more weapons. There are some things that I believe you should improve on. You should try to put your essay in a paragraph format. The second thing you should do is spend more time discussing about Sarah Palin, Barack Obama, and John McCain.

Mimi, i enjoyed reading your blog. I liked how you talked about how the North had more things than the South. I also liked how you had wrote about what we discuss in Mrs. Graber's class. You touched very good points in your blog.

hey good blog :)
I like how you talked about the north and souths advantages over one another. it was a big factor on how the north overtook the war in the end. the south really didnt have much of anything except for farming and better leaders, which I guess could give you the upperhand, but when it comes to weapons and keeping your army well fed and clothed, that's more important.
